Harry Potter

I read Harry Potter for the first time in 2005 -January in my hostel library. I read the first three books – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. I was so hooked by the charm of JK Rowling’s writing. I became a fan instantly. Moved to Bangalore, got Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix and the 6th book Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince from MG Road. And then the wait began for the final book, which released on 2007, immediately after my wedding. My friends started sending me ebooks, I started reading. But one of my friend caught hold of the book and finished in 2 days. And then I got it and finished in 3 days. That was awesome. I think it was August 2007, when I read the last book. That moment I had this idea, I would definitely get my kid to read Harry Potter and will buy the entire Harry Potter set of books.

Now, fast forward 11 years, in 2018, when my daughter turned 9, this Harry Potter book set was her birthday gift 🙂

Harry Potter

Pari asked if both of us can read together. I instantly said yes. We started reading on Feb 9th 2018 and finished the first book on March 10th 2018 and today March 11th she watched the movie, and I am so happy to see her loving Harry Potter as much as I do.

Being a Harry Potter Fan would actually be a understatement for us. We, as a family are Harry Potter fans. December 2017, we went to Universal Studios and after visiting the Wizarding world of Harry Potter, we came back and watched all 8 movies in 4 days. We are such a crazy family.

Refresh 2017

Now Again, it’s time of the year to look back 2017, and refresh the memories of joy, and appreciate the accomplishments.

Family : We are really having lots of fun with Myra. After she came to our life, there is so much laughter and fun at home, we could have ever imagined. She has filled our lives with so much of joy. Every day, she has her own unique way of making us laugh.

Home : We moved to California and downsized our home. Got rid of dining table, Dresser and Ikea drawer chest and lots and lots of stuffs. After moving here, for few months, it was real good, when we were not buying new stuffs. But now, I have started shopping again in full force. Well, at the end of the year, have started organizing the home. Just bought IKEA bookcase. And arranged it today. Yippee !!!

Travel : Moved to California and visited: San Francisco Golden Gate, Yosemite National Park, 17th Mile Drive, Children’s Discovery Museum.

Finances : Just at the end of the year, started taking care of the budget using an app “Every Dollar”

Eating out– Yepp.. this year we ate a lot outside. Especially in Bay Area, Indian food joints are so nearby. We can have samosas every week, and gur-jalebis. Nice south-indian food joints are so near. We do regular takeaways from Chipotle, Falafel joint. Next year, I definitely want to goto Taco Bell.

Hobbies : Reading and listening about Ayurveda and Rajiv Dixit. Getting more involved in Pari’s studies. And focusing more on Home Management.

Health : Have to lose weight. Not much progress.

Books: Right now, I am not reading any books. But reading about articles in Ayurveda, Financial Planning.

Pari : Her new school in California is good. Initially, I took it very casually, and later I realized she really needs to work on her studies- maths, handwriting and spelling. She enrolled on swimming classes- yes finally she is swimming. No piano classes are going on. She also went for tennnis class, which she liked a lot.The best thing that happened was- she got into coding class. She knows code.org, scratch, and robotics programming. We took her to Microsoft Minecraft classes. And she liked it.

Mood : Well, lots of ups and downs, Myra tests my patience.

Myra: She is eating well, started grass-milk. She still doesn’t drink milk from bottle. She will not eat even one bite, when she is not in a mood. Recently got her weaned from bf.

Refresh 2016

Now it’s time again to look back 2016, and refresh the memories of joy, and appreciate the accomplishments.

Family : The biggest achievement is the addition of new member… Myra .. our little bundle of joy. She is 2 months now. And now our family is complete.

Home : Does not look okay. This year was really difficult, with my difficult pregnancy and delivery. I have not been able to take care of our beautiful home. Only bought lots of stuff because of the baby and our home feels over-crowded already.

Finances : Did loads of shopping online during Thanksgiving. And now I am an online shopping pro.

Pari : She has been  really really happy with the baby sister. Has been doing good at school. Currently at reading level ‘L’. How the kids grow so fast .. I still remember when she was reading the books on level ‘B’, ‘C’. And then started reading “Elephant & Piggie” , the most interesting books ever. I just wish that her love for books keep growing this year. Went for piano class during summer. We got piano for her and hoping she plays a nice song soon.

Mood : Well, lots of ups and downs especially during the pregnancy.

Diet and Fitness: Loved to follow the diet plan for gestational Diabetes. That helped me not to gain weight during pregnancy. I gained a total of 10 pounds. After delivery, my weight was 5 pounds less than my pre-pregnancy weight (140 lbs). And tummy was in. But now during bfing I gained 20 pounds already in 3 months.

Pari made this Summer Plan and stuck on bedroom walls. We were able to do all the things except a few. I loved how she was marking on these plans after we completed them.

Summer2014plan1. Go to Beach – This summer we visited Point Pleasant beach and Asbury Park Beach in New Jersey. In Point Pleasant Beach, kids loved the rides at Boardwalk. Parking was real difficult there. I loved Asbury Park more.

2. Strawberry Picking – We had been to Lee Turkey Farm for Strawberry picking. This was real fun. We went with Pari’s friend and had a gala time picking up the strawberries. We went on a Sunday, reached by 2:00 PM and by 3:30 PM we were done 🙂 . Mom & Dad also enjoyed.

3. Swim Lessons – Finally, Pari got enrolled in swimming class. On her first day, she was crying for first 15 minutes, didn’t wanted to get into waters. But her instructor was too cool. By second class, she was enjoying the waters & swimming. At the end of her summer session, mom & dad were so proud of her swimming strokes.

4. Make Popsicle – Yes we did make popsicle with sweetened mango juice, strawberry milkshake, extra sweetened lemonade and  rose syrup.

5. Go to the fair –We visited our County fair with the friends and it was too too fun. The kids enjoyed the rides, so did we.

6. See the fireworks – Kids were so excited to watch July 4th fireworks. We managed to get to see them twice. One at Kennedy Park and the other at Milltown. It’s always great to see these fireworks.

7. Watch a movie at the park – Not done.

8. Zoo – We went to a small petting park in Johnson’s park. Kids loved it. Summer of 2015 will plan to goto a proper zoo 🙂

9. Art & Craft @ Home Not at all I believe.

10. Playdates – So many playdates.

11. Picnic – We did goto the park and arranged picnic and barbecue. Kids loved it.

Being Fabulous..

These days, I was reading “Freakin Fabulous” and “Freakin Fabulous on budget” written by the very renowned “Clinton Kelly” co-host of my favorite show “TLC;s “What Not To Wear” and I must say, I am enjoying these books a lot.

Clinton has just mentioned Being Fabulous has no relation to money. Kelly who has penned three other books, says, “I was flat broke for many years — I mean really broke — and I always felt fabulous because I would pay attention to trying my best to have nice things, dress well, eat well. It’s not about taking the easy way out. I really do believe fabulousness is a state of mind.”

Before this book, I never realized and appreciated the fabulousness of my husband… He has a certain aura of being fabulousness on every field. His selection of every piece of wardrobe, his electronic gadgets, his choice of food, drinks and eateries are extraordinary fabulous. He even doesn’t let me get any stuff which is in any way less than fabulous. Everything around him has to be fabulous, but on budget 🙂 and I love it.
